AC Valhalla – the main character’s gender controversy

There has been controversy over the canonical gender of AC’s main character: Valhalla.

A few days ago, Italian illustrator Sebastian Dell’Aria shared an interesting story about the upcoming Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla via his Twitter account. According to his friend (he doesn’t want to reveal his identity) who reportedly contacted former creative director of production Ashraf Ismail, originally in the latest version AC the main character that the player will play was created exclusively as a woman. Its male counterpart was disregarded for a long time, until the “high-ranking people” stated that they wanted a male character available in the game, as the female gender alone would not sell the production as well. The proof of the heroine’s canonicity is the fact that the Scandinavian name Eivor is given to women (this is confirmed by data from the BabyNames website).

The whole thing, although it may seem quite controversial at first, is not so “binary”. IN Reddit forum thread commented Darby McDevitt, the scriptwriter for several parts of the series Assassin’s Creed (including Valhalla). According to him, the situation described above is untrue, and the creators from the beginning designed the new version with both versions of the hero in mind. He also added that the story is conducted in such a way that it would be impossible to simply add a male counterpart to the character at the end of the work. The developers knew very well about Ubisoft’s policy, which we wrote about already in 2018. It was then that Scott Philips, the director of Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, revealed that the option to choose the main character’s gender would be a permanent feature of the series.

The settlement is the foundation of AC Valhalla – romances, key fictional decisions

At the moment, it’s hard to admit one of the parties is right. McDevitt claims that by thoroughly learning about the secrets hidden in the production, it will be possible to say that the whole thing was actually created for both characters from the beginning. Let us remind you that we will play Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla on November 17 this year on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The title will also be released on next-generation consoles. Finally, we present to you the trailer dedicated to the soundtrack that we will listen to during the game.
