Borderlands 3 as the launch title for PS5 and Xbox Series X

A month ago, Gearbox Software announced that Borderlands 3 will hit a new generation of consoles, and these versions will be available for free to people who bought the game for PS4 or Xbox One. Now we have found out when this will happen.

It turns out that we won’t have to wait long because next-gen Borderlands 3 will be the starting title for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S. The release date will therefore depend on the date of the platform’s debut in a given region.

Borderlands 3 Release Dates on Next Genes:

  • November 10, 2020: Xbox Series X / S (Worldwide)
  • November 12, 2020: PlayStation 5 (US, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea)
  • November 19, 2020: PlayStation 5 (rest of the world)

Borderlands 3 as the launch title for PS5 and Xbox Series XOne of the highlights of the new generation version will be the split-screen co-op mode.

The versions for the Xbox X Series and PS5 will offer graphics in 4K resolution and 60 frames per second. It has not been stated what we can expect from the release on the Xbox Series S. However on all new generation consoles we will get the option to play in cooperative mode on a split screen for up to four players.

The next-gen upgrade will be free, although it will be limited to a specific console family. Owners of the game on Xbox One will receive the Xbox Series X / S edition, and people with the PS4 edition will download the PS5 version free of charge. Game saves and purchased DLC add-ons will be automatically transferred to the new platform. There are also plans for a cross-play option, but we will wait for it until next year.
