Have you ever wanted to see the WhatsApp statuses of your contacts but secretly, without letting them know that you really saw their status before it disappeared? Like various other apps, like Facebook, the parent company of WhatsApp, e Instagram, which have the function of uploading stories for a period of 24 hours, the popular messaging application also has the status update function enabled for its users.
However, unlike Instagram or Snapchat or any other application with the “Stories” function, WhatsApp offers you a hidden function to see a status update in the application secretly. How is that possible?
The answer lies in one of the many old WhatsApp features: Read receipts.
Yes, just as the Read Receipts function works for chats where you want to turn on the blue markings to know the status of your message once it has been sent or turn it off for various reasons, this function also works in a similar way for Stories.
How to see the WhatsApp statuses of others without notifying them
Well, the trick is very simple!
- Go to Setting of the WhatsApp application in its Android version.
- Click on Bill.
- Click on Privacy.
- Click on state.
- Then it will ask you, “who can see my status updates”: Click on the option My contacts, except … And manually choose which of your contacts you want to see their status without them knowing. P.S: You can select all your contacts, if you wish.
- Once you have done it, you will have to check someone’s status. He or she will not be able to see your name in the people list.
However, there is a limitation. Just as turning off Read Receipts for messages does not allow your contacts to know if you have read their messages or not, nor can you see who has verified your status. But if you are okay with not keeping a tab on who viewed your status, then this feature is really useful.
