LineageOS 19 official: Android 12 and lots of news, but bad news for legacy devices

LineageOS is one of the custom ROM most appreciated by modding lovers and after months of waiting the development team has finally released the LineageOS 19based on Android 12.

The announcement follows the abandonment of 17.1 and the release of new wallpapers pending 19.1, but the team then decided to follow the AOSP build numbering, which having switched to a quarterly maintenance release model no longer has subversions. So no LineageOS 19.0 or 19.1, but only LineageOS 19. But let’s get to the news, Android 12 first and foremost, with ben 19 build based on the Android-12.1.0_r4 tag (that of Google Pixel 6).

Then the team puts the emphasis on network restrictionswith the integrated firewall, restricted networking mode and data management for apps that have been rewritten to comply with the new AOSP and BPF restrictions, in addition to the announcement support for target versions operating system Android Automotive.

The bad news is that the list of supported devices is leaner than usual as the removal of iptables in favor of eBPF has led to incompatibility with the kernel version. For 4.4 kernels a backport was successful, but 3.18 and earlier are not currently supported.

To update, you have to follow the guide for your phone model available at this link. Below you can find the complete list of supported devices while for the complete changelog we leave you at the project page.
