Westworld devs are working on a new SF series for HBO

HBO is not going to let go of the science fiction topic. In recent hours, the network has spread the news that it is planning another series in the atmosphere of science fiction. This time a novel will be taken to the workshop Ball (originally bearing the title Sphere) by Michael Crichton, originally released in 1987.

Will the series Kula do better than the 1998 movie?

The original Sphere tells the story of a group of scientists who are tasked with examining a giant spacecraft thousands of feet below the surface of the Pacific, possibly several hundred years old. On its board, the members of the expedition find the mysterious title ball. This is how a series of extraordinary events begins, during which, as we read in the official description of the series (via Entertainment Weekly), “they will confront the surreal, beautiful and deadly mysteries of the universe, only to discover that the people closest to us may turn out to be the strangest “.

Showrunner of the upcoming production based on the novel Ball Denise Thé was appointed. The executive producers of the title are Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. All three have previously collaborated on the Westworld series. Interestingly, it was based on a 1973 film entitled Wild West World, directed and screened by … Michael Crichton. The work of the American writer and filmmaker is therefore no stranger to those responsible for the screening of Kula.

In addition to Nolan and Joy, the producers of the new series based on Crichton’s prose include Athena Wickham, Robert Downey Jr, Susan Downey and Amanda Burrell. So far, we do not know who will appear in the title or when it will premiere.

It is worth noting that the HBO series will not be the first attempt to film the novel Kula Michael Crichton. The previous one was undertaken in 1998 by Barry Levinson (the creator of the Oscar winner Rain Man). His film featured Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone, Samuel L. Jackson, Peter Coyote and Liev Schreiber, among others. Unfortunately, despite the star cast, the title was very coldly received by critics and viewers, and achieved disappointing financial results.
