On December 18, we launched another edition of the Game of the Year poll by GRYOnline.pl. For almost a month, you could choose the best productions of the past twelve months and the most anticipated upcoming items. You gave a total of over 24,000 votes, for which we would like to thank you. Each of you probably had their own favorites, but which productions were ultimately at the top of the list? We invite you to read the results.
First, however, a reminder of the rules. Everyone could choose three productions in the Game of the Year 2020 and Most Anticipated Game of 2021 categories. The order in which the individual lists were created mattered – the productions that ranked first received more points than the titles from the second and third positions respectively. We chose the winners on the basis of the number of “points” collected. Here they are:
The game of the year 2020 according to GRYOnline.pl readers:
1st place – Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 is a game that has aroused considerable controversy in certain circles. Ultimately, however, the readers of GRYOnline.pl, as well as the editors, mostly decided that the production of CD Projekt RED was the best item released last year. No wonder – the title, despite its technical shortcomings, charmed many viewers with the atmosphere of the dark world of the future, a successful plot or memorable characters. It is worth noting that Cyberpunk 2077 won in our poll quite clearly – it managed to collect more than twice as many points than the position that took the second place on the podium.
2nd place – Ghost of Tsushima
The last big title released exclusively on PlayStation 4 turned out to be really successful. The story of the samurai Jin Sakai, who has to give up what he has learned all his life to stop the Mongol invasion of the eponymous Japanese island of Tsushima, has received a very warm reception from both the industry media and players. The best Assassin’s Creed that is not Assassin’s Creed? For many, yes.
3rd place – The Last of Us: Part II
Another title that caused a lot of controversy last year. Some did not like the direction in which the plot of the continuation of the cult production of Naughty Dog studio went, others were delighted with the courage of the writers, the gameplay and the design of the world. Our readers apparently largely belong to the latter group, although there will certainly be a lot of people who will not be entirely satisfied with such a high position occupied by the latest work of creators, among others Uncharted.
4) Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla
5) Doom Eternal
7) Mafia: Definitive Edition
8) Half-Life: Alyx
9) Crusader Kings III
10) Ori and the Will of the Wisps
The most anticipated game of 2021 according to GRYOnline.pl readers:
Place I – Dying Light 2
Dying Light 2 from the Polish studio Techland looks very promising. The continuation of the first-person zombie production from 2015 is to provide an engaging story with many moral choices and a very smooth gameplay in which, like in the original, parkour and hand-to-hand combat are to play a large role. Unfortunately, we still do not know exactly when the title will premiere. It is possible, however, that we will find out soon.
Place II – God of War: Ragnarok
The revival of the God of War brand in 2018 turned out to be a bull’s eye. Moving Kratos into the realities of Norse mythology and changing his character from a ruthless bully to a father trying to escape his past have appealed to many fans and critics, which resulted in numerous industry awards. Will it be similar with the sequel headed for PlayStation 5, which will most likely (as it is not official yet) be subtitled Ragnarok? Hopefully so.
3rd place – Hogwarts Legacy
The project from Avalanche studio has all the predispositions to be the best game set in the Harry Potter universe. The title will take us to Hogwarts from the nineteenth century, where as a student of the famous British School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, we will explore the extraordinary world created by JK Rowling – cast spells, meet unusual creatures and learn secret techniques. What will come of it all? We should find out about it this year.
4) Horizon: Forbidden West
5) Far Cry 6
6) Battlefield 6
7) Age of Empires IV
8) Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga
9) Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
10) Resident Evil Village
We will publish a more detailed description of the results of the Game of the Year 2020 plebiscite in the news that will appear at a later date. It will also contain various interesting facts related to voting. The results will also be discussed by editorial members on the Friendly Fire podcast, which you can listen to today at 7pm on Twitch.
We remind you that each person who took part in the Game of the Year 2020 poll should receive a premium subscription on GRYOnline.pl for seven days. If you don’t see it, try logging out and back in again.
