Does the Windows 7 installation work permanently as the only operating system?

If I download and install Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro, will it permanently function as Windows or will I be able to switch between it and OS X? I am downloading Windows 7 strictly to run Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

First, make sure you have a license for Windows 7, Windows operating systems are not “free to use” like many Apple OSes.

As for your question, you can install Windows 7 in a new disk driver partition for the ability to choose each time the machine boots with the OS to use. There are tons of guides online and even in this community that can help you proceed with installing a dual boot.

It is also possible to install Windows 7 on top of the OS X you are using. This will remove the Apple system and you will be able to use Windows only. As a personal opinion, I don’t think this is a good option (and I also think you don’t want to use this option) because MacBook Pro hardware is designed to work with Apple’s operating system, so you may need bugs / issues when using Windows. However, the performance of the car will certainly deteriorate.

Another possibility is to use a virtual machine running under OS X and simulate the Windows machine where you can install software that is interesting to use. Again as before, I don’t think this is a good option knowing that the software you want to install requires high performance.
