Nothing Phone (1) will be sold … yes, you guessed it: by invitation only!

Carl Pei never contradicts itself, and this time it recovers an old habit of the first flagship killer: the invitation system. You read right, the hated practice, but it had helped to make it famous Oneplus One (here you can find our review, for the nostalgic) will be used as a sales system for the highly anticipated Nothing Phone (1).

The occasion to announce it is a promotional videowhere the company details the process of design and production, with interviews with various employees and details on the use of recycled aluminum. But the bombshell comes to an end, when Carl Pei explains that, at least initially, the new phone will be sold through a invitation system (at 14:50 minute).

The reason for this decision? The company is small and does not have the capacity to produce millions of devicesso Carl Pei had had two options

  • wait and accumulate phones before launching them on the market
  • sell the Nothing Phone (1) just off the production line

According to Carl Pei, the launch of ear (1) was instructive in this regard, as his company was only able to sell it once a weekafter which he went immediately out of stock. The team didn’t want history to repeat itself and decided to rely on an invitation system to launch the phone.

Nothing does not want the history repeats itselfbut this will happen all right, in a kind of circle that it has of the ineluctableand that perhaps it is not only dictated by the production limits of a small OEM trying to make room in the market. Proof of this is the auction sale of the first 100 devices on StockX (by the way, you have until tomorrow to grab one), with prices that are currently in the order of $ 2,254.

Looking at things on the bright side, the phone actually looks differentas the YouTuber says MKBHD in its preview where it shows the customizable LEDs on the back known as Glyph Interface. From the point of view technicianinstead these are the specifications known at the moment:
